How did your career as an agency executive take off, and what do you attribute your success to most?
Basically moving. I took the lead to go and work overseas and it exposed me faster to new cultures, new challenges, and the global market. I would encourage everyone in their twenties to step out of their comfort zone and work in a new city, new country, or with a new challenge.
How do you keep yourself creative and driven regardless of how busy you are day to day?
It comes back to curiosity. There’s nothing better than a longBusinessweek or New Yorker article or a good business book to wake you up and see things from a fresh perspective
What do you see as the future of media strategy or advertising?
The walls are crashing down on this business since the advent of social media. It means everyone has become their own publisher, and building relevance and impact has never been more challenging. I am still optimistic about the business because it rests in ideas. The reason we all stop once a year to watch Super Bowl ads is just one example; we want to be entertained, we want to be challenged. Advertising needs to continue on this path.
